Beyond the Carve-Out: Why Year One Was About Building the Foundation for Destruction

July marks exactly one year since PFASuiki launched as an independent entity. While our underlying technology and core mission existed well before this milestone, spinning out as an independent startup one year ago fundamentally changed our trajectory. It allowed us to fully focus our engineering resources on providing a definitive solution for PFAS destruction right at the source.

Communities and industries today face an unprecedented challenge with widespread exposure to PFAS contaminants and the relentless pressure of tightening regulations. Navigating our initial carve-out over the past twelve months came with its unique operational hurdles, but it brought even greater milestones.

We took the time on July 1st to celebrate these collective efforts as a team, reflecting on our journey over some cake and alcohol-free sparkling wine.

The Reality of the Carve-Out: Focusing Engineering Resources

Operating independently means having complete ownership over the speed and direction of our technology development. In the deep-tech hardware space, momentum is everything. Spending the last year outside of a legacy corporate structure allowed us to strip away bureaucratic layers and align our daily work with a single, clear goal: breaking the carbon-fluorine bond permanently.

During these twelve months, we moved into our first dedicated office and lab space in Oberhaching and assembled our initial infrastructure completely from scratch. Equipping both environments, especially outfitting the laboratory with state-of-the-art analytical instrumentation, including our advanced Shimadzu LC-MS/MS and Metrohm Combustion Ion Chromatography (CIC) systems, was a massive undertaking. Having these sophisticated systems under our own roof was critical for establishing the empirical baseline needed to prove our electrochemical oxidation process works reliably outside of isolated environments.

Aligning the Team: From the Lab to Operations

Building a startup capable of tackling one of the most complex environmental crises of our generation takes an immense amount of energy. It requires absolute alignment across completely different disciplines.

We often find ourselves obsessing over invisible chemical bonds because we believe a future without PFAS pollution is actually possible. Achieving that vision means every single person on our team must pull in the same direction. That is why we recently brought the entire team together for a strategic workshop to ensure that as we scale, our science, operations, and engineering remain perfectly synchronized. We sharpened our core mission: we aren’t just here to “manage” forever chemicals. Our goal is to clean, treat, and permanently eliminate PFAS directly at the source.

Looking back at photos of our founders and first team members assembling our first office furniture just one year ago puts our current growth into perspective. Seeing where we started compared to where the team stands today shows the power of shared mission and culture.

Our R&D Engineer, Andy, who was already supporting our founders as a working student before the carve-out and later rejoined us full-time, captured this transition perfectly: “'At the beginning, the feeling was very Silicon Valley start-up, three people in the lab working hard, printing things with my own 3D printer at home. Returning to the team a few months later as a full-time engineer was a completely different experience: the team had grown a lot and become much more professional. However, the team still carries that innovative spirit with it, McGyvering whenever a challenge arises.”

Looking Ahead to Year Two: Industrial Pilots

We are entering our second year more motivated than ever. The primary focus of Year One was validation, stabilization, and team alignment. The focus of Year Two is field execution.

The industrial demand shift we witnessed throughout the first half of 2026 proved that the market is ready to move past temporary filtration barriers. Our technical foundation is set, and we are now actively building the infrastructure for our upcoming industrial pilot programs. We are dedicated to helping our industrial partners secure a clean, compliant, and liability-free water cycle.
