What an insightful and inspiring week at the 21st European Symposium on Fluorine Chemistry in Lisbon! From August 3–9, the city buzzed with cutting-edge talks, engaging roundtables, and vibrant poster sessions covering everything from fluorous technologies and sustainable PFAS strategies to biomedicine and materials science.
For us, the highlights were the sessions on Contaminants of Emerging Concern, with a special focus on PFAS. From regulatory perspectives and occupational exposure to innovative destruction and removal technologies, these talks showed both the urgency and the global momentum to act.
We were proud to contribute to this critical conversation. Our Head of Technology, Nebojsa Ilic, presented our “SUIKI Bottom-Up Approach” to electrochemical oxidation of PFAS and joined the ‘Sustainable and Safe PFAS’ roundtable discussion with leading experts. The engaging questions and fruitful discussions that followed both sessions were fantastic.
Beyond the lectures, the conference offered countless opportunities for exchange, networking, and inspiration — crowned by a wonderful conference dinner that fostered great conversations in a relaxed setting. We’d like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the entire organizing team at NOVA University Lisbon — in particular Ana Belén Pereiro Estévez, João M. M. Araújo, and Srdana Kolakovic Oliveira Barreiros — as well as all the PhD students and university staff who made this event possible. Your efforts created a diverse, well-structured program and an inspiring environment for exchange and collaboration.
A big thank you also to everyone we had the chance to meet and exchange with. Events like this are a powerful reminder of how essential collaboration and dialogue are in tackling global challenges.
